Valentines Day Unit
* ESSAY: Write a 5 paragraph essay beginning with this sentence: “If I had 3 wishes for Valentine’s Day, they would be…” Explain your unselfish wishes and why you chose these wishes.
* Dictionary Skills: Look up these words in the dictionary an copy the meanings that have to do with Valentine’s Day. Write your own sentence for each word. VALENTINE, HEART, CUPID, LOVE
* POETRY: Find, then copy a Valentine’s Day poem onto a plain sheet of paper. Decorate the paper in Valentine’s Day theme.
* HUMAN HEART: Look up “heart” in an encyclopedia or other reference book. Draw a good picture of a heart on plain paper. Label 8 parts neatly and correctly, then color the heart carefully. On a separate sheet of paper describe how the heart works.
* RECIPE: Copy a good recipe for a Valentine’s Day treat: cake, cookies, candy, jello, etc. Be sure to list all ingredients and directions.
* ALPHABETIZE: List these words in alphabetical order: sweetheart, valentine, happiness, St. Valentine, candy, red, pink, cupid, love, kiss, lace, arrow, heart. (Illustrate each word).
* COMPOSITION: In 5 paragraphs finish this composition. “If I were a Valentine I would like to be sent to _____________ because…” Choose a famous person living or not, be creative, tell why you chose this person.
* ALLITERATION: Using alliteration write a Valentine BLOCK PROSE.
* ART: Make a very special valentine for an adult you know. Thank that person for something he/she has done for you.

Thanks for being on task yesterday. Those of you who were not, now will have a “U” in citizenship for the field-trip. Check your grade to find out if this applies to you.
I was amazed at the scores on Utah Compose in regard to your NBA essay! WOW!!! You really hit it “out of the park” with that one!
Today,
- Read for 10 minutes.
- Write me a note about your reading and what is happening in it. I need at least one paragraph – 5min.
- Write an Onomatopoeia Poem

- Make a comparison chart Ban or Not to Ban eating contests
- Decide the one in which you agree. Place a star next to it. (Remember, you choose the one with the most relevant information.)
- Pick up a yellow page from the front table and fill it out. On the back side write down the sources and their associated quote.
- Four-square your argument. It must be finished for tomorrow’s typing.
- Poetry: Haiku (Japanese poetry about nature.)
- Spider or Star a noun in nature and add descriptions.
